Frequently asked questions - Illumination Vacuums

Which Dyson vacuum cleaner has the illumination?

The Dyson Gen5™, V15 Detect™, and Dyson V12 Detect Slim™ have a illumination cleaner head.

These cordless vacuums feature a green light that illuminates dust and particles in your home.

The light allows you to see the particles that are typically invisible to the naked eye, which can help ensure a more thorough cleaning.

How does illumination on vacuums work?

Dyson engineers integrated a green light diode – chosen for its ability to provide the best contrast – into the Fluffy Optic™️ cleaner head, positioning it precisely at a 1.5 degree angle, 7.3mm off the ground.

The light is pointed mostly horizontally, so it illuminates dust more than it illuminates the floor.

This makes the dust visually stand out on the floor surface. It means hidden dust on the floor surface that is otherwise invisible to the naked eye can be seen and removed.

Why do Dyson vacuums have illumination?

Dyson has engineered illumination technology to ensure you are reassured that your home has been deep cleaned.

Dyson vacuums have illumination to illuminate fine dust so it stands out from the surface it sits on.

The human eye’s evolutionary sensitivity to green light means we see it brighter than other colors, enhancing contrast and making hidden dust clearly visible.
