Clean the bin and cyclone

Press the button at the top of the cyclone handle and remove the bin from the machine.

The clear bin can be wiped with a damp cloth.

WARNING: Do not use any detergent or polish on any part of the machine.

  • Ensure that the bleed valve at the top of the cyclone is free of debris and moves freely when pressed.
  • Clear any hair or fibers from the cyclone shroud

Assembly instructions

Attach the cleanerhead

  • Turn the machine upside down push the cleaner head into position as shown.

Attach the wand.

Attach wand to top of hose so that it 'clicks' into place.

Fit the bottom of the wand to the machine ensuring that it 'clicks' into place.

Slide the metal section of the wand down through the hose and cover the top with the wand cap.

Store the tools

Attach the tools to the holder on the side of the machine.

How to use the brushbar

Note: The brushbar will automatically switch on when the machine is reclined into the vacuuming position.

  • Press the brush control button next to the On/Off switch to stop the brushes for use on delicate rugss, loop pile carpets and hard floors.

Press the button again to restart the brushes for vacuuming carpets.

Carrying your Dyson machine

Lift the machine only by the carry handle on the cyclone top.

For your safety, do not press the cyclone release when carrying your machine.

From the hose

Extend the wand handle and lift out of the hose.

Connect the tools to the end of the wand handle, ensuring they click into place.

Alternatively, disconnect the wand using the release catch at the end of the hose and click the tools directly to the hose.

Assembly Instructions

Attach cleanerhead

  • Turn the machine upside down push the cleanerhead into position as shown.

Attach Wand

  • Attach wand to top of hose so that it 'clicks' into place.
  • Fit the bottom of the wand to the machine ensuring that it 'clicks' into place.
  • Slide the metal section of the wand down through the hose and cover the top with the wand cap.

Store the tools.

  • Attach the tools to the holder on the side of the machine.

How to start vacuuming

  • Plug the machine in.
  • Press the pedal at the back of the machine with your foot and lower the machine into the vacuuming position. Ensure that the stabilizing wheels are fully retracted.
  • Press the ON/OFF switch.
  • Small movements of the wrist will create a zigzag motion in the cleanerhead allowing easier cleaning around furniture.
  • Extend the wand handle and lift out of the hose.
  • Connect the tools to the end of the wand handle, ensuring they click into place.
  • Alternatively, disconnect the wand using the release catch at the end of the hose and click the tools directly to the hose.

Using the accessories

  • Pull the wand upwards and out of the machine.
  • Attach either the combination tool or the stair tool to the wand or hose.

Emptying the clear bin

  1. Press the button at the top of the handle and remove the bin from the machine.
  2. Press the button again to open the bin base and release the dust.
    • This can be done directly into a bin, or into a bag wrapped around the cyclone.
  3. To completely detach the bin from the cyclone - press the release catch at the top of the clear bin.

Carefully cut away any hair or fibers using some scissors.

Refit the brushbar

Locate the end of the brushbar that has a small screw in the center.

Place the endcap on this end.

Push the brushbar back into the cleanerhead. Close the endcap and lock it using a coin.

Retest the machine.

Refit the filter ensuring it sits flush against the inside of the ball.

Turn the machine on.

Which area isn't providing the performance you'd expect?

Check the changeover valve

Remove the bin.

Check that the teardrop-shaped piece of clear plastic is in place and move's freely.

This should rotate from one side to the other as the machine when the wand is removed and replaced into the machine.

Check the rectangular inlet for blockages and remove as necessary.

The flexible hose behind the teardrop can be removed from the top end to clear a blockage.

With the wand removed, check that the hatch at the rear of the machine moves freely and is not obstructed.

Check inlet suction

Place foot on stabilizer pedal to recline machine into vacuuming position. Lay machine on its back.

If there was a blockage in the inlet or cleanerhead, please ensure tests are carried out as there may be blockages further through the machine.

Re-assemble the machine

Locate the end of the brushbar that has a small screw in the center.

Place the endcap on this end.

The paper test

The paper test is a good way of ensuring that the machine has no blockages through from the base to the bin assembly.

Rip up small bits of newspaper.

Turn the machine on and recline the machine - vacuuming over the paper.

If the paper can be seen in the clear bin then this indicates no major blockages.

Does the machine pick up the paper?

Check the lower duct hose

Turn off and unplug the machine.

Recline the machine and lay it on it's back.

Refit the lower duct hose

Push the hose back onto the rigid duct, starting with the end furthest from the cleanerhead.

Position the other end onto the duct closest to the cleanerhead.

Slowly stand the machine upright until the hose slides into place.

Has checking the lower duct resolved the problem?

Only remove the valve hose if you feel you are able to refit it. It is slightly more difficult to refit than the lower duct hose.

Remove filters

Your machine has two washable filters which require washing at least once every 3 months.

Remove the clear bin from your machine by pressing the cyclone release catch as shown.

To remove filter A, lift the filter release catch on top of the bin to remove the filter from the machine.

To remove filter B firstly recline the machine. Press the release catch located on the ball to release the filter cover. Press the red catch on the filter and pull out.

Wash both filters in cold water only (please do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine).

Repeat the steps until the water runs clear.

Filter B should be rinsed and tapped out until the water runs clear, then tapped out again to ensure all excess water is removed. This will normally require up to 10 rinses.

Dry filters

Leave the filters to dry in a warm place for 24 hours, until completely dry.

Replace filters and test machine.

Test hose suction

There will be no suction from the wand while it is attached to the machine or if the vacuum is reclined.

Open the wand glamour cap and pull the wand upwards.

Continue to pull the wand away form the machine.

Press the release catch at the top of the hose to detach the wand.

Turn the machine on and test the suction from the hose.

Check the hose

Check the hose for any holes or tears and remove any blockages.

Any non-domestic use may adversely affect the filter performance such as vacuuming up builders dust.

Wash filters and check for blockages

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked. If your machine cuts out, unplug it and leave it for at least an hour to cool down. Remember to turn the power off and unplug the machine before you check the filters and look for blockages prior to re-starting the machine.

When did the machine last have power?

Thermal cut out

Most Dyson vacuum have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.

Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

Check the bin and cyclone

Press the button at the top of the cyclone handle and remove the bin from the machine.

Press the grey button near the rectangular inlet to separate the clear bin from the cyclone.

The clear bin can be wiped with a damp cloth.

WARNING: Do not use any detergent or polish on any part of the machine.

Check the bin and cyclone for blockages and remove as necessary.

Ensure that the bleed valve at the top of the cyclone is free of debris and moves freely when pressed.

Clear any hair or fibers from the cyclone shroud.

Once the parts are completely dry, reassemble and test the machine.

Check the post filter

The post filter may have slipped out of place.

Recline the machine and lay it on it's back.

Turn off and unplug the machine.

Lay the machine on its back.

Untwist the hose

This issue could be caused by a twisted hose.

If the wand is jammed in the hose begin by removing the bin.

Please follow the steps as shown in the video below.

Pull the wand up as high as it will go.

Press the hose release catch and pull it away from the back of the machine.

Untwist and refit the hose.

If the hose pulls out to the top but does not release, this issue could be resolved by booking a repair.

If the wand won't return to the hose

Press the hose release catch and pull it away from the back of the machine.

Untwist and refit the hose.

Place one hand on each stabilizer wheel and press down towards the floor quickly and firmly until there is a click.

Check the left hand side of the stabilizer, pedal and duct pivot for damage. If any of these parts are damaged book a repair.

Try standing the machine upright.

Check the stabilizer

Unplug the machine.

A pin is located on either side of the red peddle. If the pin is out of position, this can be resolved by moving the pin back into the right slot.

Lay the machine on its front so that the stabilizer is clearly visible.

When standing behind the machine with the wand pointing away from you, locate the stabilizer pins.

Is the pin on the left hand side out of position?

Are both stabilizer pins in the correct position?

Push pins back into place

It maybe possible to push the pin(s) back into place.

Lay the machine on it's front and push the pins back into the runners.

Ensure there is nothing blocking the stabilizer mechanism.

Clear the brushbar

Blockage issue

This is likely caused by a blockage.

Check the changeover valve.

Remove the bin.

Check that the teardrop-shaped piece of clear plastic is in place and move's freely.

This should rotate from one side to the other as the machine is reclined and returned to the upright position.

Check the rectangular inlet for blockages and remove as necessary.

The flexible hose behind the teardrop can be removed from the top end to clear a blockage.

With the wand removed, check that the hatch at the rear of the machine moves freely and is not obstructed

Has clearing the changeover valve resolved the problem?

Empty the bin

Press the button at the top of the handle and remove the bin from the machine.

This can be done directly into a bin, or into a bag wrapped around the cyclone.
