Cleaning the filter - Step by step

Cleaning the filter – Regular clean

IMPORTANT: always switch OFF and unplug before carrying out any maintenance.

Wipe the filter mesh using a dry, lint-free cloth.

Use a dry, lint-free cloth to wipe clean the outer filter cage (be sure to clean the entire filter cage, wiping up and down and side to side).

Rotate the filter cage anti-clockwise and gently pull away from the machine.

Use a dry, lint-free cloth to wipe clean the filter mesh (be sure to clean the entire filter mesh, wiping up and down and side to side).

Rotate the filter cage back into position, ensuring the correct alignment.

WARNING: Rotate clockwise to lock before use.

Run the machine for up to one minute. The product should function as expected.

Cleaning the filter - Deep clean

Use a damp lint-free cloth to wipe the inner mesh (IMPORTANT: do not use other cleaning products/solvents or liquids).

Leave the machine to sit for 5 minutes.

Brush the filter mesh firmly with a new or lightly used clean, dry toothbrush for two minutes (be sure to brush the entire filter mesh, brushing up and down and side to side).

Rotate the filter cage back into position, ensuring the correct alignment.

WARNING: Rotate clockwise to lock before use.

Run the machine for up to one minute. The product should function as expected.

Is the problem with the airflow or the temperature?

Airflow control

The direction of airflow from the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer is from the opposite side to the controls.

To increase the airflow, press the 'Airflow control' button on the back of the appliance until you have three white LED lights. The available settings are:

One white light - Gentle (styling)

Two white lights - Medium (regular drying)

Three white lights - Fast (fast drying)

Temperature

The Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer is intelligent. It has a clever microprocessor which regulates temperature to help prevent extreme heat damage to protect natural shine. The maximum operating temperature in normal working conditions is up to 105°C/221°F.

To increase the temperature, press the 'Temperature control' button on the back of the appliance until you have three red LED lights. The available settings are:

One red light - low gentle drying

Two red lights - Medium 80°C/176°F (regular drying)

Three red lights - High (100°C) Fast drying and styling.

For example, if you take a machine purchased in the United Kingdom to Europe, it will work. If you take a machine purchased in the United States to Europe, it will not switch on.

Is the machine being used in a country with the same electricity supply range to where it was purchased?

Plug the machine back in using a different plug socket.

Please retest the machine once in a country with the same electricity supply range to where it was purchased.

The ALCI may have tripped whilst in use. Please perform the following checks.

Plug the Supersonic™ into the wall and press the yellow ‘test’ button.

The red ‘reset’ button will now click out of place. To reset the ALCI, unplug the Supersonic™ and press the ‘reset button’.

Plug the machine back in and retest.

Lights

Check the lights on the machine.

This indicates that the appliance has overheated. This usually happens because the filter needs washing. Unplug your appliance from the mains supply socket and leave to cool for a minimum of 1 hour.

There can be a very slight delay between pressing the power switch and airflow beginning; please allow for this.

The machine is switched off using the sliding ON/OFF switch.

Attach each accessory to the second magnet on the display stand whilst ensuring that the accessory is aligned to the stand correctly.

The Styling concentrator and Smoothing nozzle attach to the stand at the top.

The Diffuser attaches to the stand at the bottom.

Remove the packaging and instruction manual.

Unplug the appliance.

Do not cut the filter without securing first.

Place the cord and filter in the cardboard packaging.

Cut the filter off and replace with the new filter cover, securing onto the appliance.

Storage Hanger

If you store your appliance on a hook, attach the storage hanger to the ribbed section at the base of the handle.

Non-slip mat

If you need to put your appliance down while it's switched on, the non-slip mat will keep it in place.
