Paper test

Turn the airflow control to maximum.

Hold a sheet of newspaper approximately 3 meters (10') away from the product.

The paper should lift beyond 45 degrees.

Does the newspaper lift beyond 45 degrees?

Please follow steps in the video.

Has checking the loop amplifier and shroud resolved the problem?

WARNING: Do not use polish or detergent on any part of the machine.

Check and clean machine

Loop amplifier - clean with a dry or damp cloth.

Shroud - clean with a dry cloth or soft brush

Try the paper test again.

Target temperature

The temperature set on the machine is the target temperature of the room, not the temperature of the fan.

The temperature from the fan when in heating mode will not change.

Enabling cooling mode

Unlike the AM04/AM05 the AM09 does not need to be set to 33°F to enable cooling mode.

Turn the machine on.

To turn the heater off and use cool air mode press the BLUE Thermostat Control button. The power button light on the main body will change from red to blue.

Retry machine at 37°C

On first use, the heater will default to a temperature 1°C higher than the current room temperature.

Thereafter, the heater will remember the last target temperature set.

The heater will not operate unless the target temperature is above the room temperature.

Please retry the machine at temperature setting 37 degrees.

Press the red thermostat control button until the digital display on the main body shows 37 degrees.

The power button will turn red for heating mode.

Each time heating mode is selected the machine conducts a short calibration cycle, during this the airflow will be automatically controlled, once the cycle is complete it will revert to the selected airflow speed.

Normal oscillation speed

The oscillating speed is normal.

Has this resolved the issue?

Checking oscillation

The AM09 has a one touch smooth oscillation action.

When in oscillation mode the machine will temporarily stop oscillating when any of the control buttons are pressed.

If the oscillation doesn't work carry out the following checks:

Check the six feet on the base of the main body are present and clean.

(If the heater is placed on a low friction surface, e.g. highly polished or oily, the main body may slide)

Switch the heater on. Press the oscillation button.

Check the other remote functions are working and that the battery has not run out.

Try a 'Hard reset'. Unplug the machine at the wall and leave for two minutes before plugging back in.

If the other functions are not working send a new remote.

If the oscillation action is still not working arrange an exchange.

Camera test

The remote LED is invisible to the human eye, only a digital camera can show this is working.

Using a digital phone or camera, aim the LED at the lens and see if a red light shines through it.

NB: This check will not work for iPhone 5s or 6.

Test airflow

Switch the machine on using the remote control or button on the main body.

If the airflow control is still not working this issue can be resolved by arranging a return to base repair.

Press the airflow control button (2) at the top and bottom, whilst testing the airflow.

NB: The display will show 10 after the product has reached maximum, or 0 for minimum airflow.

Intermittent power

If the machine has been constantly heating for 9 hours, please select yes.

Has the machine been switched on for 9 hours, or more?

More than 9 hours

Dyson fan heaters and hot and cool purifiers have a positive safety feature where the machine deliberately switches off after 9 hours of continuous heating.

If you would like to continue using the machine after 9 hours, you will need to turn the machine back on by using either the power button on the remote control or main body.

Turn machine off

Please turn the machine off and back on again.

Has turning the machine off and on resolved the issue?

Check feet

The AM09 has a one touch, smooth oscillation action. When in oscillation mode, the product will temporarily stop oscillating when any of the control buttons are pressed. If the oscillation action doesn’t work carry out the following checks.

The machine will do this if the previously entered temperature is below the current room temperature and above 32F.

Please change the target temperature to 32F and retry the machine.

Idle mode

The AM09 will switch into idle mode once the target temperature is reached, idle mode means the motor is running at a lower rate than when in use to keep air flow moving over the thermostat so that the machine knows when to switch the heating mode back on.

If you are near the machine they may feel a draft coming from the machine when it is in idle mode.

Machine is working normally

This is completely normal.

The machine will run very slowly when in idle mode to keep air flowing over the thermostat so it can constantly regulate the temperature of the air.

This is a characteristic of the product and cannot be resolved with an exchange or return to base repair.

There is no safety concern.

If the noise is intrusive, switching the machine off at the wall will stop the noise, or altering the position of the product in the room might make the noise less audible.

Ensure all packaging, including plastic sleeve, have been removed.

Check the air inlet holes and loop amplifier for blockages and remove as necessary. Use a soft brush to remove any debris. To clean, wipe with a dry or damp cloth.
