Wi-Fi connection issues

WiFi connection issues

It is important to ascertain if the issue is with Alexa/Echo, or with the Dyson product. Try asking Alexa a general question, such as 'Alexa, what is the weather for tomorrow?'

Operate your Dyson machine manually - use the remote or controls to turn the purifier on, or press the power button on the robot.

Echo’s connectivity status is indicated by the power LED on the bottom rear of the device, with white meaning good and orange denoting no WiFi connectivity. If you are experiencing intermittent connectivity or non-existent WiFi connectivity with your Amazon Echo, here's what to try.

First, reboot your router and turn your Echo off and on again, waiting at least 10 minutes to give time for them to reconnect. Whilst waiting, you can also try re-positioning your Echo away from devices that may be interfering with the signal.

You can also reduce the congestion on your WiFi network by removing unused devices from the network.
If you have a dual-band modem, you may effectively have two networks set up. Try switching the device from the 2.4GHz frequency to the 5GHz frequency or vice-versa.

5GHz promises less interference, better speeds and a more stable connection and it is often less congested.


Alternatively, 2.4GHz can better for devices that may be further away from the router, especially if the signal has to pass through walls.

Move your Echo to higher ground, like a bookshelf, to avoid signal interference.

Installing and setting up Alexa

To get started with Amazon Echo, place the device in a central location (at least eight inches, or 20cm, from any walls and windows). Plug the power adapter into Amazon Echo and then into a power outlet. The light ring on Amazon Echo turns blue and then orange. When the light turns orange, Amazon Echo greets you.

Next, you'll need to download the Alexa app. Go to the app store on your mobile device and search for 'Alexa app'. Then select and download the app. Launch the Alexa app and ensure the account details are filled out. In the Alexa app, open the top left menu. Select 'Settings', then 'Set up a new device'. On the top of your Echo, press and hold the 'Action' button for five seconds. The light ring turns orange and Echo will connect to your mobile device.

Back on the Alexa app, select home WiFi network and enter your home WiFi password. Select 'Connect'. A confirmation message will appear in the app.

Tip: If your Amazon Echo doesn't connect to your WiFi network, unplug and then plug the device into a power outlet to restart it. If you still have trouble, reset your Amazon Echo to its factory settings and set it up again.

Try talking to Alexa. You'll find that you can now use your Amazon Echo device. To get started, say the 'wake word' (Alexa) and then speak naturally to Alexa. Once you've set-up the Dyson skill, remember to use the trigger word (Dyson), pre-empted by the command 'ask/tell'. For example, "Alexa, ask Dyson purifier to turn on".

Your Amazon Echo device is set to respond to the wake word "Alexa" by default, but you can use the Alexa app to change the wake word at any time. In the app, go to 'Settings', select your Amazon Echo device and then select 'Wake Word'.

Connecting for different product combinations:

If you have the Dyson Link app and Alexa app both installed, and your Dyson machine and Amazon Echo are both connected, but your Dyson skill is not enabled:

Ask Alexa to enable the Dyson skill, or search for Dyson in the skills section of the Alexa app. Then select the 'Enable skill' button. Allow the Alexa skill to access your Dyson Link app account. Enter your Dyson Link app account details and select 'Allow' on the confirmation screen.

If you have the Dyson Link app installed, your Dyson machine is connected but the Alexa app is not installed and your Amazon Echo is not connected:

First, check the WiFi signal strength where your Amazon Echo is positioned, by using a device known to be working. Remember to place your Amazon Echo at least eight inches away from any walls or windows, in a central location. Ensure the power adapter is plugged in and switched on.

The light ring on the Amazon Echo will turn blue then orange. When the light turns orange, Alexa greets you. Next, download the Alexa app to set-up your Amazon Echo.

In the Alexa app, open the main menu and select 'Settings' and then 'Set up a new device'. Press and hold the 'Action' button on your Amazon Echo for five seconds. The light ring will turn orange and Echo will connect to your mobile device.

Next, select your WiFi network and enter your WiFi password. Then press 'Connect'. A confirmation message will display in the app.

Controlling multiple machines

If you have more than one Alexa-controlled Dyson machine, your voice commands should make it clear which one you want to control. You can include a word like 'purifier', 'fan' or 'robot' in your command so Alexa knows which one you mean.

If you have two or more similar machines, like a purifier in your kitchen and another in your bedroom, you can assign location labels to differentiate your machines.

Navigate to your machine's settings by selecting the cog icon on your machine's status screen. From here, select 'Your machine's settings'. If you're using a purifier, select 'Room name' and choose the appropriate location. If you're using a robot, choose 'Robot name' and select a room from the predefined list.

Enabling/disabling the Dyson skill

If you own an Amazon Alexa-enabled device, you can control and monitor your Dyson connected machines using your voice. Simply enable the Dyson skill to do this.

To enable the Dyson skill, begin by saying the following: "Alexa, enable the Dyson skill." Alexa will respond: "OK, I've enabled the Dyson skill for you, but it requires you to link your Dyson account." Next, in the Alexa app, search for Dyson skill. Then select 'Enable' and follow the on-screen instructions to link your accounts.

To disable the Dyson skill, search for Dyson skill in the Alexa app and choose 'Disable skill'.

When the appliance detects that the nonwashable glass HEPA filters need replacing the display on the appliance will show a solid purple bar.

Unplug the appliance from the mains electricity supply. Slide the buttons down on either side of the shrouds. The shrouds will release with the glass HEPA filters attached.

To remove the carbon filters: press the tabs on both sides of the filters.

Dispose of the carbon filters in the bin. Dispose of used filter units in accordance with local regulations.

Push the new carbon filters onto the base until secure.

Push the shrouds until they click back into position in the base.

Plug the appliance in to the mains electricity supply and switch on.

Press and hold the Oscillation button on the remote control. The display on the appliance will countdown from five, finishing with the default screen. The carbon filter level will be reset and the appliance is ready to use.

Finally, press and hold the Standby button on the remote control. The machine's display screen will countdown from five, finishing with the default screen.

Slide the buttons down on either side of the filter covers.

The filter covers will release with the combi filters attached.

Remember, the Dyson Cryptomic™ filters are permanent, so won't need to be changed.

Remove the combi filters directly into the bin by pushing in the tabs on the filter covers.

Dispose of used filter units in accordance with local regulations.

Push the new combi filters into the filter covers until secure.

Plug the machine in and switch on at the wall.

Your machine will come with both filters.

This will reset the combi filter life.

You can also reset your filter life in your settings on the app.

Begin by unplugging your machine from the mains power outlet.

Install the filter

Unplug the appliance from the mains electricity supply. Slide the buttons down on either side of the shrouds.

The shrouds will release with the glass HEPA filters attached.

Empty the glass HEPA filters directly into the bin by pushing in both the purple tabs on the shrouds. Dispose of used filter units in accordance with local regulations.

Push the new glass HEPA filters into the shrouds until secure. Push the shrouds until they click back into position in the base.

Plug the appliance in to the mains electricity supply and switch on.

Press and hold the Night mode button on the remote control. The display on the appliance will countdown from five, finishing with the default screen. The glass HEPA filter level will be reset and the appliance is ready to use.

Insert the Dyson Cryptomic™ filter where the carbon filter used to be.

Slide the buttons down on either side of the filter covers.

The filter covers will release with the combi filters attached.

Push firmly until it clicks into place.

Insert filter

It's permanent, so once fitted, you won't need to change it.

Now attach each half of your new combi filter to the filter covers, where the HEPA filters used to be.

Then, push the filter covers back onto the machine's base until they click back into position.

The scheduling function of the app will not work if there are more than 35 cleans scheduled per week. If you have more than 35 cleans scheduled, please remove as necessary.

If you have less than 35 cleans scheduled per week and you are still experiencing an issue, please remove all of the schedules and re-add each of them.

Using the product with a filter or evaporator not produced by Dyson may have a detrimental effect on the functionality of the machine. Any issues therefore caused by using one or both of these, will not be covered under the products guarantee.

Check and clean machine

Unplug your machine from the mains power outlet.

Wipe the amplifier loop, shrouds and other parts with a clean, dry cloth. Pay special attention to the oscillating channels on the front of the amplifying loop.

Do not use detergents or polishes to clean the machine.

Checking for blockages

We'd recommend checking for blockages in the following places:

The air inlet holes on the shrouds. The small aperture inside the amplifier loop. The air inlet holes behind the filters. The soft plastic mesh, which is visible inside the machine when the evaporator is removed.

Remove any dust or debris with a soft brush.

Trickling or gurgling noise

Should the drip tray overfill, the machine's water return float is activated. As the water returns to the tank, a trickling or gurgling noise may be heard. The display screen will prompt that a deep clean cycle is to be run.

For a step by step guide on running a deep clean please continue to the next step.

A trickling or gurgling noise can be heard if the evaporator is missing. In this instance, please replace the evaporator in the machine.

If the evaporator is missing, to order a replacement, please select 'Evaporator' from the available options.

Deep cleaning your machine

To always get the best performance from your Dyson purifying humidifying fan, it is important to carry out regular deep cleaning to remove any limescale.

Your machine will alert you when it needs you to carry out a Deep clean cycle. If you are connected to the Dyson Link app, you will receive a notification message.

If you are not using the Dyson Link app, the LCD screen on your machine will alert you and the Deep clean cycle button will light up. To cancel the Deep clean cycle at any point, press and hold the Deep clean cycle button for five seconds.

Press the Deep clean cycle button on the front of your machine and your instructions will be shown on the LCD screen.

Push down on the Shroud release buttons to remove the shrouds. The inner door will spring open. Put the shrouds to one side as you carry out the Deep clean cycle.

Push down the Water tank release buttons on the sides of your machine. Slide the water tank out of your machine and unclip the cap.

Remove the evaporator from your machine, place it in the water tank and refit the cap.

Carry the water tank to the tap by its handle.

Remove the cap and evaporator. Fill the water tank halfway to the Max level with cold tap water.

Measure out 150g of citric acid powder and place it in the water tank.

Agitate gently until all of the citric acid powder has dissolved.

Place the evaporator in the water tank. Fill the water tank to the Max level with cold tap water.

Replace the cap and secure the cap clips in place. Wipe off any excess water to avoid drips.

Slide the water tank into your machine until it clicks securely in place.

When prompted by the LCD screen, press the Deep clean cycle button.

The Deep clean cycle will start and the LCD screen will show a countdown timer.

When the LCD screen shows the Deep clean cycle is complete, push down the water tank release buttons on the sides of your machine.

Slide the water tank out of your machine. Carry the water tank by its handle to the tap.

Unclip the cap, take the evaporator out of the water tank and rinse under a cold tap. Wipe away any excess water to avoid drips and place the evaporator to one side.

Rinse the water tank under a cold tap. Wipe the inside of the tank to remove any excess solution and any debris.

Refill the water tank to the Max level and wipe off any excess water and replace the cap, making sure that the cap clips are secured.

Push the evaporator back into your machine, making sure that it is securely in position. Close the inner door and replace the shrouds. Slide the water tank back into your machine and make sure it is securely in place.

Remove the water tank

Push down the water tank release buttons on the sides of your machine. Slide the water tank out of your machine.

Refit the water tank

Slide the water tank back into your machine until it clicks securely in place.

Remove the shrouds

Push down the Shroud release buttons on both sides of your machine to release the shrouds.

Check the filters in both shrouds are fitted correctly. The tabs on the top and bottom should have clicked into place.

Remove the filters from the shroud and refit.

Remove the evaporator and check the soft plastic mesh directly above where it seats inside the machine.

Refit the shrouds

Put the shrouds into position on the main body and push gently until they click securely into place.

Press the airflow direction button on the remote control to switch between front and back airflow. An animation on the display will indicate which direction the airflow is in; holding your hand either side of the amplifier will also give an indication.

Cleaning

If dust accumulates on the surface of your machine, wipe dust from the amplifier loop, shrouds and other parts with a clean, dry cloth.

Look for blockages in the air inlet holes on the shroud, the small aperture inside the amplifier loop and on the soft plastic mesh, which is visible inside the machine when the evaporator is removed.

Use a soft brush to remove dust and debris.

Don't use detergents or polishes to clean your machine.

Press the airflow direction button on the remote control to switch between front and back airflow. An animation on the display will indicate which direction the airflow is in; holding your hand either side of the amplifier will also give an indication.

Ensure the correct button on remote is being pressed.

The airspeed can be adjusted from 1 - 10. 10 being the highest.

Changing the battery

Unscrew the remote control's battery compartment.

Loosen the base and pull it away from the remote. Replace the battery with type CR 2032.

Humidifying

In Auto humidify mode, your machine's on-board sensors will intelligently adjust the settings according to the humidity of your room.

Your machine will pause when the target humidity has been reached. It will resume when the humidity levels change.

Manually setting the humidity level

You can choose from 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% or 70%, using either the remote or your app.

You can change your target humidity by using the + and - Humidity control buttons.

Display screen

If the machine encounters an issue during use, an animation sequence will appears on the display screen.

During either Auto or Manual purification modes, you may encounter an alert if the water tank level is low or the machine requires a deep clean.

Water tank alert

When the tank is empty, an animation sequence appears on the display screen. This indicates the water tank requires refilling.

If the water tank required refilling, please proceed to the next step.

Deep clean alert

If a deep clean is due on the machine, an animation sequence appears on the display screen. This indicates a deep clean cycle is required.

The amount of water in the tank will also reduce over time.

Increasing the fan speed

first check the current humidity level in the room. This is done by changing the options on the display screen. Should the humidity level be lower or higher than the target set, increasing the fan speed should help rectify this.

If the machine is being used in a large open space with windows and doors open, it may take longer to reach the humidity level.

Press the Oscillation button to set the angle of oscillation to 0°, 45° ,90° or 'Breeze mode'.

Please be aware the whole product does not oscillate, the oscillation occurs from the oscillating channels inside the amplifying loop.
