Wash the filters
Press the release catch and remove the filter housing from the machine.

Remove the filter from the housing.

Remove the clear bin and cyclone from the machine.

Lift the release catch located on the filter lid and remove the filter.

Wash both filters in cold water only until the water runs clear. Do not use detergent. Do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine.

Leave to dry in a warm place for 12-24 hours. Do not dry the filter in a tumble dryer, microwave, oven or near a naked flame.

Ensure the bin is completely dry before attaching back to the cyclone, and press firmly on the center of the clear bin base to close before placing back on the machine.

Push the button to release dust directly into a dustbin or bag.

Shake or tap firmly to remove all dust from inside the fine dust collector, and check the bin is completely empty.
Press firmly on the centre of the clear bin base to close before placing back on the machine.
Test the machine.

Pull back the Wand cap.
Turn the machine on and place your hand of the end of the Wand.
Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?
Keep your hands and clothing away from the Brush bar area at all times.
Check the Brush bar
Recline the machine back into the vacuuming position.

Check that the arrow on the Brush bar control clutch moves forward to the carpeted floors position.
Lay the machine on its side, keeping it in the vacuuming position.
Turn the machine on and check to see if the Brush bar is spinning.
Airway inspection checks
Remove the valve pipe near to the base of the machine, using the two buttons.

Check the valve pipe for blockages and remove if necessary.

Check the seal on the valve pipe for any damage.
Check the seal on the machine for any damage.
Plug the machine in and switch ON. Place your hand over the airway inspection and test the suction.
Is the suction strong or weaker than usual?

Remove the soleplate. Inspect the internal hose for blockages or and damage. Both ends of the internal hose pull away. If the internal hose is split choose 'part broken'. When refitting, push firmly to connect and ensure that both ends of the hose are fitted securely.

Carefully remove any blockages from the Brush bar using a pair of scissors to cut away any hair and fibers if necessary.

Reattach the soleplate by first lining it up at the front, and then securing the three fasteners.
Retest the machine.

Turn the machine off and remove the cyclone and bin.

Check the entry seal located on the left side of the duct is not missing or damaged.
Check the entry pipe and exhaust pipe on the main duct for any blockages and remove as necessary.

Check the cyclone entry seal is not missing or damaged.
Check both entry inlets on the clear bin and cyclone for blockages and remove as necessary.

Open the bin lid being careful to ensure dust is captured.

Release the clear bin from the cyclone by pressing the button on the back of the cyclone.

Clean the cyclone with a dry cloth and shake or tap firmly to remove all dust from inside the fine dust collector. Check the cyclone seal is not missing or damaged.

If any parts are missing or damaged, select 'part broken'.
Reassemble and test machine.

Checking the upright lock
The upright lock can become displaced and cause the machine to not stand correctly. This can be easily resolved by following the procedure:
Recline the machine back until it lies flat on the floor, and then stand behind it.
On the right side, by the back wheel you will find the valve pipe carriage.
Check the valve pipe is clear of blockages by pressing the push button to remove it from the valve carriage.
Lock the valve carriage into place by pressing the black push button in front, and lifting the rear section until it clicks into place.
Keep your hands and clothing away from the Brush bar area at all times.
Check the Brush bar
Recline the machine back into the vacuuming position.

Check that the arrow on the Brush bar control clutch moves forward to the carpeted floors position.
Lay the machine on its side, keeping it in the vacuuming position.
Turn the machine on and check to see if the Brush bar is spinning.

Is the suction from the hose strong or weaker than usual?
Check the Wand
Look through the Wand. You should see light shining through. If not, remove the blockage.

Connect the Wand to the hose and test the machine.

Checking the hose and U-bend
Switch off and unplug the machine.

Recline the machine and lay on to its front.
Remove the U-bend, checking for blockages and remove as necessary.

Check the hose for blockages and remove as necessary. Ensure the hose is fitted correctly at the base of the machine.

This suggests either a blockage or a damaged or missing seal.
Test the suction

Check the Mini turbine head
Undo the fastener with a coin.

Remove the Brush bar from the Mini turbine head.

Clear any hair, threads and debris from the Brush bar. Inspect the duct on the underside of the Turbine head for blockages and remove if necessary.

Refit the Brush bar and fasten the Mini turbine head fastener with a coin.
Test the Mini Turbine head on the machine.
Further checks required
The Mini turbine head will work if the suction is strong. This issue can be resolved by carrying out performance checks or washing the filter.
If the Mini turbine head is damaged, choose the order option.

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.

What sort of smell?
Clean the bin and cyclone
A damp or musty smell is caused when dust in the cyclone has come into contact with water.
It may not be a direct contact with water, for example when vacuuming pet hair that is slightly damp, this moisture will combine with the dust in the cyclone causing the smell.
Additionally the smell may occur if the filter goes back into the machine wet.

How to operate the brush control
When in the vacuuming position, the arrow on the clutch control should be pointing to 'Carpeted floors', and the Brush bar will be spinning.

Move the dial back to the 'Hard floors' position to turn the Brush bar off to vacuum hard flooring or delicate carpets and rugs.
How to attach the Wand, hose and accessories
Lift up the Wand cap and pull the metal tube from inside the Wand until it locks into place.

Press the wand release catch and remove the wand handle and hose from the machine.
To separate the Wand from the hose press the release button located on the Wand handle and pull the hose and Wand apart.
Attach the tool to the end of the Wand or hose, ensuring it clicks into place.
How to carry your Dyson machine
To lift the machine, use the carrying handle on the cyclone top only.
For your safety, do not press the cyclone release catch when carrying your machine.
Always work with the machine at the bottom of the stairs. The hose should stretch to the top of the stairs.
How to vacuum the stairs
Lift up the Wand cap and pull the metal tube from inside the Wand until it locks into place.

Press the wand release catch and remove the wand handle and hose from the machine.
