Please select the appropriate option

Clean the bin and cyclone

Press the button at the top of the cyclone handle and remove the bin from the machine.

Press the button again to open the bin base.

Press the grey button near the rectangular inlet to separate the clear bin from the cyclone.

The clear bin can be wiped with a damp cloth.

WARNING: Do not use any detergent or polish on any part of the machine.

Check the bin and cyclone for blockages and remove as necessary.

Ensure that the bleed valve at the top of the cyclone is free of debris and moves freely when pressed.

Clear any hair or fibres from the cyclone shroud.

WARNING: Do not use any water on the cyclone.

Once the parts are completely dry, reassemble and test the machine.

Plug the machine in.

Recline it into the vacuuming position.

Turn it on and turn the Brush bar off using the grey switch next to the on button.

Has the noise stopped?

Clear the Brush bar

This suggests that there is a blockage in the machine.

Turn off and unplug the machine.

Lay the machine on its back.

Taking care, use a flat head screwdriver to remove the C-clip and pull the Cleaner head away from the vacuum's Main body.

Using a coin, undo the end cap and remove the Brush bar.

Carefully cut away any hair or fibers using scissors.

Check the Brush bar and end cap for signs of damage.

Refit the Brush bar

Refit the Brush bar and end cap.

Locate the end of the Brush bar that has a small screw in the center . Place the end cap on this end.

Push the Brush bar back into the Cleaner head.

Close the end cap and lock it using a coin.

Place the C-clip onto the Cleaner head and push the head onto the machine until it clicks.

Turn on and test the machine.

Remove the post-filter

Recline the machine and lay it on its back.

Press the button on the ball and remove the post-filter cover.

Check the housing for any debris and remove as necessary.

Refit the filter

Place the filter back in the ball.

Ensure that both ends of the filter lid are connected correctly and that the lid is flush with the ball.

Test the machine.

Remove the post-filter

Recline the machine and lay it on its back.

Pull filter out of the ball.

Turn the machine on.

Refit the filter

Where have you noticed the drop in performance?

Check the Brush bar

Plug in and switch on the machine.

Recline it into the vacuuming position.

Switch off and unplug the machine before proceeding.

Check inlet suction

Place foot on stabilizer pedal to recline machine into the vacuuming position. Lay the machine on its back.

Pull the Cleaner head away from the vacuum's Main body.

Switch the machine on.

Place your hand over the opening and test the suction.

Is the suction at the Cleaner head inlet strong or is it weaker than usual?

Switch off and unplug the machine before proceeding.

Using a coin, undo the end cap and remove the Brush bar.

Check the opening on the Cleaner head for blockages and remove as necessary.

Refit the Brush bar

Locate the end of the Brush bar that has a small screw in the center . Place the end cap on this end.

Push the Brush bar back into the Cleaner head.

Close the end cap and lock it using a coin.

Place the C-clip onto the Cleaner head and push the head onto the machine until it clicks.

Turn on and test the machine.

Check the lower duct hose

Turn off and unplug the machine.

Place foot on stabilizer pedal to recline machine into the vacuuming position. Lay the machine on its back.

Pull the flexible lower duct hose away from the rigid pipe.

Refit the lower duct hose

Push the hose back onto the rigid duct, starting with the end furthest from the Cleaner head.

Position the other end onto the duct closest to the Cleaner head.

Slowly stand the machine upright until the hose slides into place.

Only remove the valve hose if you feel you are able to refit it. It is slightly more difficult to refit than the lower duct hose.

Check the changeover valve

Remove the bin.

Check that the teardrop-shaped piece of clear plastic is in place and moves freely.

This should rotate from one side to the other when the Wand is pulled up and replaced in the machine.

Check the rectangular inlet for blockages and remove as necessary.

The flexible hose behind the teardrop can be removed from the top end to clear a blockage.

With the Wand removed, check that the hatch at the rear of the machine moves freely and is not obstructed.

Wash the filters

Remove the clear bin and cyclone from the machine by pressing the cyclone release catch.

Remove the pre-filter

To remove filter A, lift the filter release catch on top of the bin to remove the filter from the machine.

Remove the post-filter

To remove filter B firstly recline the machine. Press the release catch located on the ball to release the filter cover. Press the red catch on the filter and pull out.

Wash both filters in cold water only (Please do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine).

Repeat the steps until the water runs clear.

Filter B should be rinsed and tapped out until the water runs clear, then tapped out again to ensure all excess water is removed. This will normally require up to 10 rinses.

Leave filter to dry in a warm place until filter is completely dry.

Do not dry filter in a tumble dryer, microwave, oven, or near an open flame.

Reassemble the machine

Replace filters and test machine.

Has washing the filters resolved the problem?

Only remove the lower duct hose if you are confident you can refit it.

Check the lower duct hose

Turn off and unplug the machine.

Recline the machine and lay it on its back.

Pull the flexible lower duct hose away from the rigid pipe.

Push the hose back onto the rigid duct, starting with the end furthest from the Cleaner head.

Stand at the front of the machine with the Cleaner head at your feet.

Check the left side of the Cleaner head for a red reset switch.

Test the hose suction

There will be no suction from the Wand while it is attached to the machine or if the vacuum is reclined.

To use the Wand, pull the handle upwards until it clicks into place.

Any non-domestic use may adversely affect the filter performance such as vacuuming up builders dust.

Wash the filters and check for blockages

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked. If your machine cuts out, unplug it and leave it for at least an hour to cool down. Remember to turn the power off and unplug the machine before you check the filters and look for blockages prior to re-starting the machine.

Your machine has two washable filters which require washing at least once every 3 months.

Remove the bin

When did the machine last have power?

Thermal cut out

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.

Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

A damp or musty smell is caused when dust in the cyclone has come into contact with water.

It may not be a direct contact with water, for example when vacuuming pet hair that is slightly damp, this moisture will combine with the dust in the cyclone causing the smell.

Additionally the smell may occur if the filter goes back into the machine wet.

Hose attachment

Check that the valve hatch at the base of the machine is clear of any blockages.

Push the hose down into the slot.

Check the end of the Wand for signs of damage.

Check the length of the hose for tears and the cuffs for cracks.

Ensure the button on the hose cuff is in place and springs back when pressed.

Check that the slot at the rear of the machine is not damaged.

Check for reset switch

Stand at the front of the machine with the Cleaner head at your feet.

Check the left side of the Cleaner head for a red reset switch.

Release the catch by hand

Remove the bin from the machine by pressing the red Bin release button located on the handle of the bin and cyclone.

Pull the clear plastic catch on the base away from the bin.

Check the Brush bar

Plug in and switch on the machine.

Recline it into the vacuuming position.

Check the Brush bar through the window at the front of the Cleaner head.

Is the Brush bar spinning?

Check for reset switch

Stand at the front of the machine with the Cleaner head at your feet.

Check the left side of the Cleaner head for a red reset switch.

Check the post-filter

The post-filter may have slipped out of place.

Recline the machine and lay it on its back.

Press the button on the ball and remove the post-filter cover.

Press the release catch on the filter and pull it out of the ball.

Ensure that both ends of the filter lid are connected correctly and that the lid is flush with the ball.

Test the machine.

Blockage issue

This suggests that there is a blockage somewhere in the machine.

Clear the Brush bar

Turn off and unplug the machine.

Lay the machine on its back.

Taking care, use a flat head screwdriver to remove the C-clip and pull the Cleaner head away from the vacuum's Main body.

Using a coin, undo the end cap and remove the Brush bar.

Carefully cut away any hair or fibres from the Brush bar.

Check the Brush bar and end cap for signs of damage.

Refit the Brush bar

Locate the end of the Brush bar that has a small screw in the center . Place the end cap on this end.

Push the Brush bar back into the Cleaner head.

Close the end cap and lock it using a coin.

Place the C-clip onto the Cleaner head and push the head onto the machine until it clicks.

Has this resolved the problem?

Only remove the valve hose if you feel you are able to refit it. It is slightly more difficult to refit than the lower duct hose.

Check the changeover valve

Remove the bin.

Check that the teardrop-shaped piece of clear plastic is in place and moves freely.

This should rotate from one side to the other as the machine is reclined and returned to the upright position.

Check the rectangular inlet for blockages and remove as necessary.

The flexible hose behind the teardrop can be removed from the top end to clear a blockage.

With the Wand removed, check that the hatch at the rear of the machine moves freely and is not obstructed.

Assembly instructions

Attach the Cleaner head.

Ensure that the connection pins underneath the Cleaner head are located correctly.

Locate the C-clip into place and fit the Cleaner head to the inlet at the base of the machine.

Attach the Wand.

  • Slide the Wand into the hose and fit to the back of the machine until it 'clicks' into position.

Store the tools.

Attach the combination tool to the tool holder at the rear of the machine.

How to use the Brush bar

Note: The Brush bar will automatically switch on when the machine is reclined into the vacuuming position.

Press the brush control button next to the On/Off switch to stop the brushes for use on delicate rugs, loop pile carpets and hard floors.

Press the button again to restart the brushes for vacuuming carpets.

Lift the machine only by the carry handle on the cyclone top.

For your safety, do not press the cyclone release when carrying your machine.

How to start vacuuming

Plug the machine in.

Pull the Wand handle up until it 'clicks' into place.

Press the pedal at the back of the machine with your foot and lower the machine into the vacuuming position. Ensure that the stabilising wheels are fully retracted.

Press the ON/OFF switch.

Small movements of the wrist will create a zigzag motion in the Cleaner head allowing easier cleaning around furniture.

Extend the wand handle until it clicks.

Press the Wand release catch and pull away from the main duct.

Pull the Wand out of the hose.

Reverse the wand handle.

Lift the wand handle cap and push on to the hose until it clicks into place.

Push the combination tool on to the end of the wand handle using a twisting action to ensure a tight fit.

Alternatively, click the combination tool directly to the hose.

Empty the bin

Press the button at the top of the handle and remove the bin from the machine.

Press the button again to open the bin base and empty it of dust.

This can be done directly into a bin, or into a bag wrapped around the cyclone.

Wash the filters

Your machine has two washable filters which require washing at least once every 3 months.

Remove the bin

Remove the clear bin from your machine by pressing the cyclone release catch as shown.

Remove the pre-filter

To remove filter A, lift the filter release catch on top of the bin to remove the filter from the machine.

Remove the post-filter

To remove filter B firstly recline the machine. Press the release catch located on the ball to release the filter cover. Press the red catch on the filter and pull out.

Wash the filters

Wash both filters in cold water only (Please do not use detergent, do not wash in a dishwasher or washing machine).

Repeat the steps until the water runs clear.

Filter B should be rinsed and tapped out until the water runs clear, then tapped out again to ensure all excess water is removed. This will normally require up to 10 rinses.

Dry filters

Leave filter to dry in a warm place until filter is completely dry.

Do not dry filter in a tumble dryer, microwave, oven, or near an open flame.

Reassemble the machine

Replace filters and test machine.
