Fully charge before first use
It's important to fully charge your new machine before using it for the first time, and after every clean. This is because the battery and monitoring system's algorithm 'learns' over time, and fully charging your machine helps it to more accurately calculate and display remaining run time.
How to use your machine
Understanding the three cleaning modes
The optimum balance of power and run time. Your machine only adapts to different floor types when the High Torque cleaner head is attached.
Up to five minutes of run time. Designed for intensive cleaning on ground-in dirt.
Maximum run time for longer cleans all around your home.
Choosing the right tool for the task
High Torque cleaner head
Automatically adapts to different floor types when your machine is in Auto mode.
Mini motorized tool
The motorized brush bar tackles hair and ground-in dirt in tight spaces, like your stairs or car.
Tackles dust and allergens in hard-to-reach places, such as gaps and corners.
Two tools in one, for versatile cleaning. Its stiff nylon bristles are tough enough to remove ground-in dirt.
Charging your machine's battery
If your machine has a red catch on the battery, you can charge your battery on or off your machine, in or outside of the dock.
Maintaining your machine
From clearing the brush bar to washing the filter, our quick guide will help you keep your machine working at its best.
Washing the filter
There's a new way to wash the filter. See how to do it quickly and easily.
Checking for blockages
If your machine displays the blockage light, check for any blockages in its airflow pathways. Watch how to do it.
Emptying the bin
The 'point and shoot' bin emptying mechanism easily and hygienically ejects dirt. Watch how to do it.
How to maintain your filter
We engineer vacuums that are simple to use and easy to look after. We suggest you clean your filter once a month to keep your machine running at maximum efficiency.
1. Remove your Dyson filter(s)
Remove the filter from your Dyson machine.
2. Remove excess debris
Tap your filter lightly on the side of the sink or in the bin, to remove any loose dust and debris.
3. Rinse filter
Wash your filter under warm water – gently squeezing it with your hands.
Don't use detergent.
4. Give it a firm shake
Fill the filter with warm water. With one hand covering each end, shake it firmly to ensure all trapped debris is released. Repeat this step until the water runs clear and then tap the filter to remove all excess water.
5. Leave to dry for 24+ hours
After washing the filter, leave to dry for at least 24 hours in an area with plenty of airflow, such as beside a fan or open window. The filter must be completely dry before you put it back into the machine, or it could damage the motor.
Don't dry the filter in a tumble dryer, microwave or near a naked flame.
Regularly wash the filter
It's important to wash the filter regularly, to maintain optimum performance. You should do this once a month, or if the filter light continues to flash when the filter unit is fitted correctly.
Don't overfill it
To maintain suction, keep an eye on the bin and empty it as soon as debris reaches the MAX marker.
Setting up your charging dock
You can use the charging dock to store your machine, so it's always to hand and ready to go. See how to set it up.
Frequently asked questionsCan I leave my vacuum on charge?
The battery is designed to be left on charge permanently, and this will ensure that the vacuum is fully charged when it's next used. Once the battery is fully charged, your machine won't use any more electricity.
Should I fully charge my vacuum after every use?
We recommend fully charging your machine after every clean. This helps your vacuum's battery and monitoring system's algorithm to more accurately calculate and display remaining run time.
Does this machine connect to the Dyson Link app?
Your machine works independently and doesn't connect to the Dyson Link app.
How often should I clean the filter?
You should clean the filter once a month, or if the filter light continues to flash when the filter unit is fitted correctly.
Why isn't my Dyson V11™ vacuum adapting to different floors?
Your machine will only adapt to different floors when the High Torque cleaner head is attached and it's in Auto mode. Other tools and modes are designed for specific tasks.
What's the switch on the cleaner head for?
You can use the switch on the High Torque cleaner head to further adjust the suction. Slide it towards the '+' for maximum suction for ground-in dirt and large debris on durable floor coverings. And towards the '-' for light dirt on deep pile carpets and delicate floor coverings, such as vinyl and lino. Leave it in the middle for dust and debris on carpets, rugs and hard floors.
