Empty the bin

Turn the power off and unplug the machine.

Press the release catch on the cyclone assembly and remove the cyclone and clear bin from the machine.

Push the button on top of the cyclone to open the bin lid, being careful to ensure dust is captured.

Shake or tap firmly to remove all dust from inside the fine dust collector.

Press firmly on the center of the clear bin base to close before placing back on the machine.

Replace the batteries

Undo the screw in the handle on the telescopic pipe and remove the cover.

Image shows you how to replace the batteries in the wand handle.

Remove the used batteries and replace them with two new AAA type batteries.

Replace the battery cover, and tighten the screw.

Please dispose of the used batteries responsibly.

Cleaning the machine

This issue can be resolved by washing the filter and cleaning the bin and cyclone.

Clean the bin and cyclone

Turn off power and unplug the machine.

Press the release button at the top of the handle and remove the bin from the machine.

Floor tool

Remove the floor tool and turn the machine on.

Does the noise occur without the floor tool attached?

Check duct, bin and cyclone

Switch off and unplug the machine.

Press the release catch on the cyclone and remove the cyclone and clear bin from the machine.

Check the seals located on the hose inlet and exhaust pipe are not missing or damaged.

Check the hose inlet and exhaust pipe for any blockages and remove as necessary.

Push the button on top of the cyclone to open the bin lid, being careful to ensure dust is captured.

Release the clear bin from the cyclone by pressing the button on the back of the cyclone.

Check the cyclone and inlet for blockages, and remove any dust or debris if applicable.

Clean the cyclone with a dry cloth and shake or tap firmly to remove all dust from inside the fine dust collector.

Check the cyclone and bin seals are not missing or damaged.

If any parts are missing or damaged, select 'part broken'.

Reassemble and test machine.

Mini flat out tool

Check the red tabs on the underneath of the Mini flat out tool.

Slide both of the tabs into the open position.

Ensure duct is free of any blockages.

Has checking the floor tool resolved the problem?

Check the floor tool for blockages and damage

Fully remove the floor tool from the machine.

With the Turbine head removed, check the openings on the tool for blockages and remove as necessary.

Unlock the Brush bar end cap

Use a coin to unlock the fastener marked with a padlock.

Remove the Brush bar

Carefully remove the Brush bar and clear any debris.

Reassemble and turn on machine. Check that the plunger moves freely.

This suggests that air is escaping due to an obstruction.

Place your hand over the hose inlet and test the suction.

Ensure that the extension tube is fully extended.

Unclip the hose from the hose inlet.

Separate the wand handle from the hose and extension tube.

Check inside the Wand handle and along the length of the hose and extension tube for blockages and remove as necessary.

Check the Brush bar

Unlock the Brush bar end cap.

Use a coin to unlock the fastener marked with a padlock.

Remove the Brush bar.

Carefully remove the Brush bar and clear any debris.

Re-assemble and turn on machine.

The Brush bar should spin if the suction is strong, so please continue with the performance checks.

When did the machine last have power?

Thermal cut out

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.

Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.

Is the power cord or plug damaged?

Are the other household appliances working?

Does the vacuum work when plugged into another socket?

Using the cable

Turn off and unplug the machine.

If the cable does not rewind, firmly pull it out and fully extend it until the red tape is visible.

The cord rewind button needs to be pressed down firmly to retract the cord for storage after use. When the button is pressed down far enough you should feel and hear a click, and the cord will retract.

Check the Wand controls

The Brush bar is controlled by the buttons on the Wand.

Switch the machine on.

Test both buttons on the Wand - if the buttons are not functioning, ensure the batteries have been changed.

Unlock the Brush bar end cap

Use a coin to unlock the fastener marked with a padlock.

Remove the Brush bar

Carefully remove the Brush bar and clear any debris.

Check the connections

Check the microswitch moves freely and is not jammed or broken.

Check the connection pins beneath the inlet of the floor tool. Ensure that they are not damaged or bent.

Check the corresponding connectors on the telescopic pipe for signs of damage.

Check that the pins on the hose are not bent or broken.

Check the corresponding connectors on the inlet for signs of damage.

Reassemble the machine ensuring each part is securely connected to the others. Turn the machine on and see of the brushes now spin.

Assembling your Dyson machine

The floor tool in the image may differ to the tool that you have, however the process remains the same.

Attach the hose to the hose inlet on the front of the machine.

Clip the hose to the rear of the telescopic wand.

Press the release catch and extend the Extension tube to the length required, ensuring it 'clicks' firmly into place.
