Lingering pet odors

Sprinkling an area with a mixture of baking soda and water can help remove pet odors. Leave it on for a few minutes, then pat with a kitchen towel and leave to dry naturally.

Muddy pawprints

If an animal has left a trail of muddy pawprints, leave the mud to dry. Then attach a Dyson Stiff bristle brush to your vacuum cleaner to loosen the dirt so it can be sucked away.

Some dogs get a new coat twice a year

Their coat doesn't protect them from the sun's rays. Keep them out of the midday sun and even apply a little sunscreen to susceptible areas like the bridge of the nose, ear tips and belly if it's really sunny.

Dirty litter trays

Pour vinegar to a depth of about 1/2" inch into an empty litter tray. Leave it for 15 minutes and then pour it away. This will help clean the tray. Sprinkling in baking soda afterwards will help combat odors.

Pet beds

If your pet has a favorite blanket or cushion, you can make it smell less doggy or catty by sprinkling it with baking soda. Leave it for 15 minutes, then vacuum thoroughly.

Pets have allergies too

Pollen, flea bites and dust mites can trigger allergic reactions in pets - and can lead to more serious problems like dermatitis. Vacuum regularly, and wash your pet's bedding at 140°F to kill dust mites.
